Quartet Pour Sigurd Raschér
Composed by Niels Lyhne Løkkegaard (2019)
Live recording from Mengi, Reykjavik, June 22nd, 2019.
Saxophone quartet:
Tumi Árnason (alto saxophone)
Björgvin Ragnar (alto saxophone)
Helgi Rúnar Heiðarsson (alto saxophone)
Niels Lyhne Løkkegaard (alto saxophone)
Being educated as a saxophonist (in 2005) Niels Lyhne Løkkegaard had, like most other saxophonists, spent many hours of studying the overtone exercises of Sigurd Raschér. Usually the Sigurd Raschér exercises are seen as a way to improve the sound of the saxophone and the exercises as such are usually not considered to be more than mere exercises. In this composition the Sigurd Raschér exercises are approached as sonic material in it´s own right.
